This 'poll' is seriously flawed. If you don't allow for a response of 'none' or 'very little' you wind up with seriously skewed results. Yes, gas prices are surely affecting a number of the population, but nine out ten!? That is hardly believable.
I totally agree with you. I would've voted to see the results, but none of the choices were applicable. These increases in gas prices haven't put a crimp in any of my plans yet. Neither has the increase in food prices. It's not THAT big of an increase.
It's not like we shouldn't have been prepared for the gas price increases. Any smart person should know that oil won't last forever, especially at the rate the United States goes through it. Looks like the people who couldn't care less about driving gas guzzlers before are caring now. Boo-hoo.
But isn't that what the media does? Skew us? Sorry, U R exactly correct - We have already bought a fuel eco car and the Lexus and BMW are parked. But, we are in the 200K bracket and while we are being careful, it is not hurting badly yet? As to the survey - it did not allow for any middle ground and as a person who deals with this in my business, I would not want to base my decisions on the results of this survey.
I truly believe 9 out of 10 is a good number. A year ago we were paying $235/mo for gas. This year we are paying $338/mo for gas and that's just to get back and forth to work. My salary certainly didn't increase by $100/month or more. We're already driving cars that get 29-31 MPG and we don't do much extra. If asked, neither of the candidates can come up with anything better than we're working on more eco-friendly stuff and hope to see improvement by 2012 - what about the next few years? Pinched is hardly the word - more like robbed, yet the fuel companies record RECORD PROFITS.

I agree the poll is seriously flawed. The only choices they gave you already assumed you were feeling pain and had changed your behavior. What about those of us who have yet to really notice any major differences and haven't changed our behavior? (I, for one, have a combined household income of more than $200K/year, yet my spending habits haven't change much since my law school days when I was scraping by. I've always been frugal and a a saver. That hasn't changed.)
Because I rarely drive, given that I live within walking distance of the office (only even have a car for the grocery store...even going on trips we usually fly), my monhtly gas expenditures have grown from $20/month last year to about $40/month this year. Not that big of a deal, considering that my salary has increased by about $600/month after taxes from last year to this year just on the basis of a raise and cost-of-living adjustments.
I am shocked that people feel Obama is the one to bail us out of the oil situation we are in? Then again this is a "left wing" web site...How can that be done with out drilling for new oil? Everyone agrees that there should be more fuel efficient cars, however only the democrats are not willing to bend on drilling. "NOT IN MY BACK YARD" as the saying used to be, and still is it seems. I find it strange that allowing the 700million barrels of (RESERVE OIL) be used on the market to lower cost?? How is that different from drilling or putting 10BILLION barrels of oil on the market... a billion is a heck of a lot more than a million last time I checked and would bring prices down. It is simple math. I feel that the public poll was not very accurate and I would be very interested to see who is being talked to, and what part of the country they are in. Has anyone done a poll on how the military feels about letting a person of Obama's character into the office?? Most of the people I know are Republican or Independent. I only know of a couple of Democrats and they are sort of lost on their outlook of life anyway.. everyone deserves something for nothing attitude... I listened to a radio show on another network the other day and they were visiting people on the streets, people are going to vote for him becuase he is black, not for what he stands for.. This is a sad state of affairs the country is in right now when this is their deciding factor? Put ( GEN POWELL ) in the office. If you want a black man in there. Not someone who is going to rip this country apart and give it away because everyone deserves an equal share. I heard it put this way to a child the other day and I am going to spell it out to those who might read this. You tell a 5 year old to clean their room and for a reward they will get a cookie. Great, room is clean here is the cookie, wait a minute, you have to share that cookie with 20 of your friends and 20 strangers, who did not help you clean your room. You worked hard for that cookie. The cookie is only the size of a "Fig Newton" now you have to share it with all these people? How much of that cookie will YOU have left? The answer NONE. I thank you for your time in letting me vent about what I have read. Start drilling now. It will lower the speculators cost by KNOWING there is ample supply of oil out there. NOT TEN years from now either, with in the year this should lower prices. Simple Math
